About the Journal

“Green Economy and Development” is an open-access, double-blind peer-reviewed scientific e-journal publishing research in green economics, sustainable development, resource efficiency and environmental economics.

The journal is included in the national list of scientific publications recommended for publishing the results of PhD and DSc candidates in economic sciences.

Aims and mission

The green economy is a relatively new field of economic science that has taken an increasingly prominent place on the global research agenda in recent decades. It emerged at the end of the twentieth century in response to global environmental problems, the scarcity of natural resources and the threats posed by climate change. The concept gained scientific and practical recognition in the UN environment and sustainable development programmes (UNEP, 2008; 2011) and in the decisions of the Rio+20 Summit (2012).

The conceptual essence of the green economy lies in harmonising economic growth with the rational use of natural resources, environmental protection and social justice. Unlike traditional economic models, it is oriented not only towards GDP growth but also towards environmental efficiency, carbon neutrality and social well-being.

Theoretically, the green economy brings together ideas from several schools of thought:

  • Ecological economics (Herman Daly, 1996);
  • Resource economics (Robert Solow, 1974);
  • Sustainable human development (Amartya Sen, 1999);
  • Corporate environmental responsibility (Michael Porter, 2000).

Their common idea is to reconcile human activity with the limited capacity of nature. The principal goal of the green economy is long-term environmental sustainability and economic efficiency rather than short-term gain.

The role of the journal

“Green Economy and Development” is a national scientific platform covering the theoretical and applied aspects of the green economy. Its main purpose is to foster harmony between economic growth and environmental sustainability, to popularise green innovation and to shape economic thinking grounded in environmental and financial responsibility.

The editorial policy is directed towards the following areas:

  • Transition strategy to a green economy — analysis of institutional, legal and financial foundations;
  • Renewable energy sources — the scientific case for integrating solar, wind, biomass, hydro and geothermal energy into the national economy;
  • Green finance and environmental accounting — developing environmental audit practice and financial transparency;
  • Sustainable production and energy efficiency — practical recommendations for adopting resource-saving technologies;
  • A balanced “human–nature–economy” system — scientific analysis of innovative solutions for environmental safety.

  • Renewable energy and green technologies: analytical research on solar, wind, bio-, hydro- and geothermal energy and their economic and environmental efficiency.
  • Green finance and investment: environmental lending mechanisms, green bonds, international investment funds and the financing of environmental projects.
  • Green accounting: reflecting environmental impact in financial statements, assessing the carbon footprint and environmental costs, and integrating international “green accounting” standards into the national system.
  • Sustainable economic governance: harmonising economic growth with environmental principles through green policy, environmental management systems and resource-saving strategies.
  • Green transport and logistics: zero-waste transport systems, renewable-energy logistics solutions and carbon-footprint reduction technologies.
  • Interdisciplinary integration: research collaboration at the intersection of economics, energy, finance, accounting, ecology and the social sciences.

The journal brings together research articles, analytical reviews, conceptual studies and practical recommendations grounded in international experience. Each issue aims to balance environmental sustainability, the rational use of resources, economic efficiency and social well-being.

At the end of 2025 the journal was ranked among the five most authoritative scientific publications in Uzbekistan.

Today the journal serves as a lasting bridge between the scientific community, business and government institutions.
